The day to day grind as an employee in a Big Corp is often devoid of fun and games, but every now and then a little unexpected entertainment happens. My favorite over the years happened AGAIN TODAY!!!
What is this amusing pastime you ask? It's the Reply All Game!
It works like this: someone sends an email to a distribution list, except that someone accidentally picked the wrong distribution list (probably helped along by Outlook autocomplete). The email goes out to a couple thousand people. A couple of thousand of people that have NO IDEA what the email is about.
Then the Reply All's start, and I make my popcorn.
There are three main flavors:
- Person Reply's All with "Please remove me from this list."
- Person Reply's All with "WTF is this about, I don't understand, pls heeelllppp."
- Person Reply's All with "STOP REPLYING ALL!!!" (my favorite 😆)
It becomes a mob because each Reply All goes to the same couple of thousand people, inflaming those with little self-control and itchy Reply-All fingers. Eventually people remember they have Responsibilities and it dies off.
I know, I know, I need to get out more. 😁
