I helped come up with the name. When fiatjaf created nostr he didn't know what to call it, at the time it only supported two features: you could create a profile and you could post messages. I told him he should called it PAM: Profiles and Messages. He said that was not searchable enough because it would return too many unrelated things. I suggested other names that were acronyms for other parts of the protocol, like RAMPUP which stood for Relays, Authenticated Messaging, Profiles and I forget the rest. He liked the idea of just naming things in the protocol but didn't like rampup so he suggested nostr. I liked it because it sounds like Noster which is latin for ours. And thus nostr's name was born
