Turning a nonprofit into a for-profit is very bad IMO—as if there weren’t enough loopholes for rich people to turn everything into a casino. All the altruistic promises that OpenAI claimed at its founding seems to have melted in the bright light of dollar signs.
Don’t be fooled by the “benefit corporation” status either. With the diminished status of its nonprofit board, the new OpenAI will be run like a startup to generate an exit strategy for its investors.
