have you ever looked into a Health Savings Account (HSA) with a high deductible plan? some companies contribute to the HSA and it can be rolled over tax free and used when the high deductible plan needs to be used. this way when you have an expensive emergency, you can cover the deductible, or most of it.
this is how HR tries to sell it to me anyways. i never use my health insurance plan either. i only need it when i'm unemployed.
