Meta admits censorship, fumbles its "mea culpa."

Nick Clegg, Meta’s President of Global Affairs, has conceded what millions of users have been shouting for years: Meta's content "moderation" gets it wrong —a lot. “Too often harmless content gets taken down…too many people get penalized unfairly,” he wrote.

Threads is in the mix too. Despite some softening rhetoric from Zuckerberg & Co., the system still "overdid it a bit" during COVID-19, as Clegg put it.

They didn’t "overdo it a bit." They overdid it a lot. Especially on pandemic discourse, where hindsight now reveals the cost of silencing dissenting views.

Clegg suggests Meta is rethinking policies, allowing users to question election processes while blocking content with "signals" of violence. But who defines these “signals”? And how often will those be an excuse to quash speech?
