For instance, the shape and color of the physical button to start a car or a vacuum or a doorbell button... would those be able to be protected by patent law?
If so, then I contend that non-physical buttons (i.e. icons that, when clicked or tapped or "activated" somehow, perform an action) should also be protected.
A GUI should be treated the same way any physical interface should be treated.
