I feel for my personal machine, configuration in the terminal is really just about configuring:
1. vim
2. git
3. fish (mostly just env vars / PATH / aliases)
4. ssh (just keys)
For almost everything else I just learn to live with the defaults, it took me probably 15 years to learn to configure vim in a way that I like and in general I don't really have the patience to manage a lot of config
