Russian Court Extends Detention of US Journalist
==========
A Russian court has extended the detention of US journalist Evan Gershkovich by two months on espionage charges. Gershkovich, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, has been held in Moscow's Lefortovo Prison for one year. The court ruling brings his detention to the end of March. The allegations against Gershkovich have been denied by both him and The Wall Street Journal, and Russia has not provided any evidence in the criminal case. US Consul General Stuart Wilson attended the hearing, and US Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy has called for Gershkovich's immediate release. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has stated that the US is working on obtaining the release of Gershkovich and another American, Paul Whelan, who has been held on espionage charges since 2020.
