The point of open protocols is that anyone can use them. The point of federated systems is that anyone can choose who they federate to.
This is a strength, not a weakness.
If a bunch of communities decide not to federate with Meta that is entirely cool, and likewise for any communities that chose to do so. The point of a federated system is to allow for exactly these kinds of disagreement.
What’s not cool? Any community, on any “side” attempting to coerce others into doing their bidding.
