The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), reiterated on Thursday, 29, that it is 'prudent' to give the government 10 days to present an alternative to the increase in the Financial Operations Tax (IOF). The deputy defended that the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, should enter the debate on the topic. According to Motta, after the deadline, he may decide whether or not to change the proposal. The President of the House emphasized that if the proposal does not change, the Congress may suspend the measure with a legislative project. Motta stressed that the House wants more 'structural' measures as an alternative, aiming for fiscal responsibility. He highlighted, for example, the debate on tax exemptions. According to Motta, Brazil is tired of so many taxes and 'can't take it anymore'. When asked if the Congress might suggest measures to the government, Motta emphasized that the economic team is responsible for discussing them.
