ok, several hours of intense anxiety while waiting around and one conversation with the police department later:

Police checked their records. Landlord did not call the police yesterday, or talk to the police in any kind of recorded way. I was told the only way he could have spoken to the police would be if he had been standing on the side of the road and waved down a passing car to start chatting with them off the record which, given the fact that this is the edge of a small town, is unlikely as I pretty much never see cop cars cruising around.

There is no warrant out for the arrest of some doordash driver, no record of this address being host to any kind of crime activity (at least not that's been reported) and the police told me that the driveway and the yards are actually MY property, not his, since the main house is being rented by us and he and his wife live in the carriage house and that, even if it wasn't, the driveway and surrounding area is legally considered shared property per the lease.

The officer I spoke with said "oh, he's one of those guys" and explained that sometimes dudes are just unhinged in a really specific way when it comes to their "domicile."

The official police recommendation is to cut off all contact with the landlords, only have critical communications with them in recorded formats (email, text, recorded audio conversation) and to break the lease as soon as possible. He also recommended I keep the deadbolt locked at all times while in the house, and suggested installing a lightbulb-shaped camera on the front porch if we decide we would feel safer with that.
