In 1982, Steven Callahan’s small boat, the “Napoleon Solo,” sank in the Atlantic Ocean after colliding with a whale.
He escaped into a six-man Avon inflatable life raft, retrieving essential supplies from his sunken vessel, including food, navigation charts, a spear gun, and a survival manual.
Drifting for 76 days, Callahan survived by spearing mahi-mahi and triggerfish, catching birds, and collecting rainwater.
On April 20, he spotted lights from an island and was rescued by fishermen the next day, having traveled 1,800 miles.
