When I first started twitter I had an avatar that was gender neutral and people assumed I was a man and the respect and easy follows I experienced was remarkable. I changed my avatar as everyone in my network wanted to verify each other as real people and nee interaction dramatically changed. It was a social media lesson I never forgot, no matter how many men tell me otherwise
