Apparently, the date of All Saint's Day (All Hallows' Day) might have been chosen to replace the Celtic festival Samhain. The date of Christmas, on the other hand, may have been chosen to coincide with the winter solstice festival to give Christians cover to observe their holiday without outing themselves as the Romans were still persecuting them around the time the date was chosen.",
