Senate Republicans led by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell issued a statement that they would not consider any nominee put forth by Obama, & that a Supreme Court nomination should be left to the next POTUS
Eventually, President Trump, a Republican, nominated Neil Gorsuch to the vacant seat, & the Republican Senate majority confirmed him.
McConnell went on to boast about stopping Garland's nomination.
