The "Unified Reich" panic is at least partly a reflection of attitudes toward the German language. "Reich" means "kingdom" or "empire." In the context of the 1870s, which is what the stock background of the controversial video refers to, it's analogous to "United Kingdom." It sounds scarier in German.
