why you shouldn't give to the homeless: march 25th, 2023
there are plenty of reasons not to give money to homeless people. a lot of the homeless are drug addicts or drink alcohol and could use the money to buy drugs. but even if they don't do drugs, they could buy drugs to resell them for a living or for someone else. money really doesn't help out the homeless people, it enables them.
now there was a story where this guy created a gofundme account for this really nice homeless person. the guy collected something like $175,000 or maybe more. $175,000 is life changing money for a lot of people. but ya know what happened? he was broke in 3 months. the homeless man spent it all on drugs and parties and gambled it away and gave it to other drug addicts. many of the homeless people need more help than $175,000 can give them. many of them need long time treatment in rehab and several years in therapy. and even then, that may not help.
there may be rare occasions where you give a homeless $500 and they use the money to fix their car and get a job and live happily ever after. but that is extremely rare. some of the videos on youtube show youtubers giving homeless people $500 and they show them in a nice new suit and they get a new job. but of course that's rigged to get people to donate more money to the youtube channel. in the real world, if you give a homeless heroin addict $500, they might just buy enough heroin to kill themselves. then wouldn't you feel bad about that? and if you have that on video, that's not gonna be good for your channel. they make those videos disappear.
another thing people don't realize about giving the homeless money is that most of them don't have bank accounts to deposit money or they're inactive accounts, meaning the bank closed them. so if you give a homeless person a bunch of cash in broad daylight and he's not that smart and he's waving it around town, he may just get robbed or killed for that money. the homeless have burned all their bridges, they maxed out all their accounts and cards. they milked everything from their friends and family until they couldn't get any more from them. so if they see cash on the street, it's blood in the water. that's probably the only reason i would support a cashless society but that's a story for another day.
i've tried to help the homeless and even let them stay at my home. but this is very risky. one of them started selling illegal drugs out of my house. so it's like they've killed my sense of charity to them. even if they seem like they're a good person, they could still lie to you and you can risk your entire life for someone who couldn't care less about you. they just want your money. so it's really not worth it. it's so difficult to help a homeless person. i could go on for so long about the homeless and the bad experiences i've had with them. i don't hate them, i really don't. but i just want to warn people about the risk they put themselves and the homeless in when they give them money. this is your oussy anecdote for the week. i will return to hehe haha lol shortly.
