I used specific wording, not to confused but to specify. The modern web we know today, for 24 years relies heavily on CDN technology.

The image I included is the patent for CDNs, approved in August of 2000's.

The algorithms for consistent hashing were developed in the 90's, but they were patented in the year 2000 and distributed to a few major players.

Between 2000 and 2001 you had the beginning of the DotCom crash which impacted Akamai heavily and in fact was the reason Lewin was on board the planes on 9/11.

What was born was the scalability of the "modern" web. What links to 9/11 is the co-op of that modern web and how it still impacts our lives today.

What specifically matters is that CDN technology was widely DEPLOYED on 9/11.

The position I want to expose is that fact that, not only did the web "go down due to immense traffic" but it in fact "came back online" for a lot of major players. It wasn't an accident that they could deploy new web architecture DURING a national terror attack.
