Dear Senator / Representative --
In your discussions with your colleagues, please remind every member of Congress that the right to levy tariffs resides with Congress. Please make this a focus of every discussion you have, both in the halls of Congress, on the floor, in your committee work, and in the news media. Please remind every member of Congress that the tariff crisis is Trump’s doing, but Congress has the power to fix this situation if they choose to side with their constituents.
Please press to have the existing bills (Rep. Don Bacon's in the House and the Cantwell / Grassley version for the Senate) to make a move against Trump’s unilateral emergency tariffs openly discussed and debated, then voted on. Please use every procedural trick that exists to get these bills heard openly by the American public.
Then please use your time during the upcoming recess to visit Republican voting parts of the state and have open, public conversations with Republican voters about how they are doing under this Republican Administration. Speak with veterans and those on Medicaid and remind them what you are doing to keep the federal programs they depend on.
