My partner's mom had an appointment today that she was scared of and so we accompanied her, my partner, his dad and me. None of us felt sure this wasn't complete overkill. But in the end I think it helped that she had all this backup, everything went well and we all stood up for her needs, including herself.
And now I'm super moved because wouldn't it be nice if we normalised being there for each other, even if it's not super necessary, instead of pretending we "have our lives together"?
