Jupiter's moon, Europa, is thought to contain a deep ocean of liquid water surrounded by a thick shell of ice. Since nearby Io is the most volcanically active place in the Solar System, it's hoped that Europa will have active volcanism at the bottom of the ocean, with molten rock supporting a nutrient-rich ecosystem like Earth's deep-sea vents. A new study calculated that Europa probably has no faults and cracks at its seafloor, making the ocean uninhabitable.
