**A typical forum experience in the world of open source.**

Question: Hello, can anyone tell me how to do X?

Response: I think the best way is to do Y.

Reply: Y is good but Z is better.

Reply: Z is better and you can do it in Docker.

Reply: You should try A and B too. You can throw those into the same Docker with Z.

Reply: Oh no no, don’t do that! It’s against best practices to run things like that in the same container. Use a container for each thing.

Reply: I’ve run Z, A, and B in the same container for months without any problems, what’re you talking about?

Reply: Yeah, I use compose files that are deployed through Ansible. I tried some other containers like podman and LXC but Docker and Ansible work well enough for me.

Reply: If you don’t want to go the container route, you can install Y easily using a tool called Y-Installer.

Reply: Oh, I’d never use Y-Installer or anything like that. I build my stuff from source.

Reply: That and Y-Installer is a GUI front end for Y-instl. Save yourself the headache and just do it from the terminal.

Reply: Guys, you’re losing sight of what’s going on. Why would you use some stupid CLI app when you can just run it in a container?

Reply: I run mine in a VM and that’s really all that VM does.

Reply: That’s stupid as fuck, why are you doing that?

Reply: Look, just put in all in separate LXC containers. You might have to configure a bunch of stuff but it’s worth it.

Reply: Oh hey, I just found this thread! Don’t forget about D! D is new and it’s pretty awesome.

Reply: I’ve never heard of D, can you run it in a container?

Reply: Maybe? I’ve not tried. I’ve got it running on my Windows machine.

Reply: Windows is for limp-dicked shitclowns who are afraid of real computers, you need to wipe that shit and install Arch.

Reply: Fuck Arch and fuck you.

Reply: Arch is so needlessly complicated, just use Gentoo.

Reply: Hey I tried D and D wasn’t bad. There’s a version you can run on Linux too.

Reply: If it started out as a Windows app, I’m not installing it on my system.

Reply: I just found out about D and I made a Snap of it. You can snag it in the Snap Store.

Reply: Snap is bullshit and the Snap Store is a long plastic hallway filled with the bodies of Richard Stallman and Linus Torvalds. Flatpak or nothing, my friend.

Reply: Jeez, dude, there’s nothing wrong with Snaps, it’s just another packaging format.

Reply: Of which we have too many all ready.

Reply: Well if everyone would just do the obviously smart thing and start using Flatpak…

And on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on….
