as i understand it, microsoft is trying to move to a 'we wanna be citrix' model, where you dont even get your own local version of windows, you use basically 'a dumb terminal' and you connect over the internet to .. basically an RDP endpoint and 'they now own the desktop'.
it's why they intentionally made running exchange so miserable that people conceded and went to the cloud against their will
all in the name of subscription recurring revenue
