the rain continues to overwhelm our creeks and rivers. thus my usual swimming hole was running pretty swift, so headed off to one of our local lakes for a dip.
local natives rarely swim in the dark lake waters especially at sunset. perhaps I should've gone to the beach but that was a longer drive that I care not to make.
walked down the boat ramp, removed my clothing down to my swim trunks. it started raining harder upon entering the dark waters of the lake. air temp 7° c, water was 6.5° c.
spent 5 mins in these dark waters, it matched my mood, a mind set been struggling with for sometime. usually cold plunges elicit gasping for breath and stinging pain gets one to focus on the body, drawing us away from our grasping minds.
but I've increasingly have adapted to cold exposure to over past 5 months. so finished this cold immersion session quietly in prayer, with much thankfulness for being alive.
wanted to stay longer, but need to be careful about the 'after drop' phenomenon associated with extended cold plunges. made my way back to boat ramp, dried off, headed to the car.
chatted with a bystander. he said there was a search party looking for man with dementia who wandered away from nearby assisted living center. he ask that I keep an eye out for him with frequenting lake area for my swims.
there are worst fears than dark waters, perhaps being a shadow of your self?
