in a few rare situations for producers it does such as driving algorithms in such a way as to bring out quantization error, recording something and slowing down the high frequencies from ultrasonic into the sonic range, stuff like that.
for generally just recording and playback i think this is getting ridiculous. 32 bit x 96 khz with a good quality DAC sounds flawless to my ear. you'll never tell the difference between a 384 khz and 96 khz recording i would put money on it
