I was just thinking about this as I saw a post from
Karnage and 248 others (npub1r0r…q9ac) who was talking about the ups and downs of a UX design giving people "trust scores": Social media should be a testing ground or a staging area for political action.
Social media (that is free and open and principled) has so much potential to develop or improve social interactions and has the advantage of being a wholly artificial system which can be completely disconnected from physical reality. That said, obviously there is overlap in infrastructure and of course the human elements of the system, which means that social media can have massive impact on "the real world" as well, which we have obviously already seen to a certain degree over the past 15 years or so.
The problem, from my view, is the negative feedback from history, politics, and economics in "the real world" into social media which has been simplified and weaponised against the revolutionary potential of the system, and this is why projects like nostr and bitcoin with a principled user base need to reject appropriation by all institutions, namely governments and corporations.
Zuck the cuck sold out first chance he got and is now just another tyrant vying to accumulate more undue wealth and power.
