"content": "this is an entirely reasonable position and as a software author I'm happy with it, but as far as I'm aware next to nobody actually does that. I've triaged too many bugs which ended up root-caused to \"the distro package is too old\" or (rarely) \"the distro package is broken\", and I can't recall any instance where the bug was triaged by Debian first. it's possible it happened and I forgot it, or maybe it was never in the issue text, but it seems very rare despite the huge userbase",
