Honestly I feel like lawns are only ever justified in public parks. Lawn grass *is* very comfy to sit on, but only public parks get enough visitor traffic to ever justify the insane water costs needed to maintain a lawn and are concentrated enough to not be a problem, but only on a condition that public parks are the only spaces where lawns are contained.
