I'm not getting the popup on every article; it seems to be specific articles, but I can't tell if it's that those articles are tagged as requiring subscriptions or if it randomly picks some long articles to paywall.
I noticed the reader trick too, but it doesn't get the full article. The text definitely cuts off partway through. At least it gets me a bit more though!
