It's annoying IMO- not hard for the client to just add your pubkey to the authors filter in REQ messages, so following yourself is pointless.
Iris did it twice on my account, and attempting to unfollow from their UI doesn't work. Primal just filters out self-follows. I'd remove it by manually editing+republishing the event (nak is a great tool) but that's too much effort when I know it'll just keep happening whenever I open Iris
