In the books wizarding society is stagnet, practically stuck in a 1600's. Their awareness of firearms would likely be that they're no more advanced than muskets. Wizards are also described as being somewhat retarded too, that they struggle with basic logic problems, so they probably wouldn't think to advance guns in anyway, or even have a need to do so.
But they are also highly xenophobic and isolated, so no one with a modern gun would probably be able to take them on anyway because they probably wouldn't cross paths.
