⚸ (npub13x5…mduq) Oh, to meet the expectations set by OpenAI as a business, it would cost a minimum of $1000 a month to maintain a service that load-balances and sleeps multiple GPUs depending on usage, just to not be spending on the power costs of the GPUs full-time, and that puts it into a special category -- if it's not a utility at that price point, it's a luxury. If AIKit lands well, that will stabilize the luxury side of things, and we will see a pretty boring AI experience until the open source hackers make innovations that OpenAI copies and Apple finds a way to do that people will pay stupid amounts for.
MS/OpenAI/Github will hold ~75% of the market doing one-shot things, 15% will be Apple or specialist B2B companies like Moveworks who will eventually be M&A'd into someone else's force, and the five to ten percent will be the open source hackers making innovations in speed and application, as well as doing their best to keep up with the "silo" (lacking a better term) AI functionality that comes. Think spinning up a small llama whenever LibreOffice opens because there's just demand in the OSS realm for that plugin.
