There is no guarantee that it will work. People are hoping it will work, but we know China has some excellent engineers who might find a way to break through the "dome".
We know darn well China and Russia will put their best engineers working on a way to get through the dome, and they could create a dome of their own. It could spark a new arms race.
It's not going to stop any internal threat.
It's not going to protect the U.S. from catastrophic damage caused by climate change (stronger hurricanes, drought, heat waves, rising sea levels, etc.).
