I think it might be more so you don't accidentally pay the wrong bill! One time I deposited money into my bank account to pay a bill with a check (ugh) and the bank teller put it in my mom's account! Our accounts aren't linked. Not even sure how that happened. Took half an hour to sort it out. 🙄
