To this point, there was a fairly well researched book that made the case that The New Testament was written by Romans as a troll and victory lap after vanquishing Jerusalem.

I believe the term "Caesar's Massiah" will find something on the topic.

You could think of it a little bit like Martin Luther King, they kill the guy (Al Ledgedlee), then they put up his image for the masses and repeat his speeches and promote his non-violent protest methodology.

Everybody in the upper echelon knows this is a bunch of shit, nobody actually cares about racial justice, but the plebs eagerly lap it up.

I find it telling that in most depictions, they show Jesus on the cross. In Rome circa 100ish AD, Jesus on the cross have something for everyone. The plebeians worship Jesus, but the patricians worship the symbol of the cross ("we torture our enemies to death").

It is obviously very convenient that the religion which takes Rome by storm encourages passivity and obedience. It is now believed that the Jerusalem rebels were the total opposite, something like Taliban. This fact is brought up as an argument that a peaceful Jesus would be unlikely to emerge by chance.
