Is the average "human in the street" going to switch from not buying a car (of any sort - ICE / hybrid / EV) and using public transport to buying a car because of solar PV shaded car parking?
I think that the answer to that question is no.
Will some people choose to drive and park in shade rather than use public transport when previously they would have chosen public transport because they would have had to park in the sun?
Seems implausible but not impossible.
So, unless the car park is allowed to be larger than it otherwise would be, I see only net positive outcomes from solar shade structures for existing car parks.
But fuck town planners that prioritise cars over public transport.
