From the view videos I remember watching, the gold guys remarked that the goldback premiums ended up almost doubling the price.
And actually, just to be factually accurate, I took a glance at the gold spot price a few moments ago. The current spot price is 3,256.99 USD/troy ounce. A 100 Goldback note is currently going for 646 USD and weighs 0.10 troy ounces. So, if I'm not missing anything, that would make the price per troy ounce of Goldbacks come out to...6,460 USD, which is 198% of the spot price.
That seems like a major loss (and makes a 1-10% spread on p2p BTC or XMR seem super cheap).
