I don't know why but I am far less tolerant of unwanted sensory stimuli than when I was under 40.
I've been shrugging it off - post ADHD diagnosis - as "COVID took away my coping strategies", but... I dunno, maybe I was always like this but considered masking to be an acceptable trade-off?
Like, I can absolutely deal with a loud concert or nightclub _if I want to be there_. If the noise is incidental or unnecessary or unexpected, then I head rapidly down Panic Attack Alley.
