Abu Dhabi representatives from the Department of Health, M42, and Khalifa University will highlight the role of genomics in developing and delivering high-quality healthcare solutions on a large scale during the annual meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics 2024, which will take place from November 5 to 9 in Denver, Colorado, USA. Experts from the Department of Health will present the latest updates on the UAE Genomics Program and its impact on early disease detection and prevention, while M42 and Khalifa University will showcase the latest developments in Abu Dhabi's genomics and precision medicine. The Department of Health and M42 will present six research initiatives, each providing valuable information on the biological role of genomics and precision medicine, and experts from the Department will share the latest updates on the UAE Genomics Program, highlighting its impact on disease prevention, early diagnosis, and personalized treatment tailored to local genetic profiles. M42 will highlight its ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between scientific discoveries and clinical outcomes through its role in the UAE Genomics Program, and will shed light on the research and clinical applications within the program, as well as provide a comparative analysis of emerging genomics technologies. The efforts led by Omics Center, a subsidiary of M42, aim to achieve the long-term goal of using genetic data to support pioneering research and precision medicine, which will contribute to achieving global healthcare standards. Dr. Mohamed Salem Al-Amri, Head of Research and Projects at the Department of Health, said that the UAE has embarked on a journey that has resulted in the establishment of the UAE Genomics Program, which is setting the genetic map for Emirati citizens to develop advanced, personalized, and preventive healthcare, in addition to launching many quality initiatives, including the precise cancer program, genetic testing within the pre-marriage and pre-pregnancy testing programs, and genetic reports, among others. The UAE Genomics Program has successfully collected over 600,000 samples and sequenced 100,000 of them using advanced sequencing technologies, providing valuable data that has opened up important opportunities for developing biological technologies, drugs, and AI-based treatments, as well as elevating global health standards. The annual meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics will discuss a wide range of genomics topics, and will shed light on the most significant scientific breakthroughs in this field this year.
