glad its ended well, but it seems mildly unnerving these lads knew what Linux was in the first place *and* sat and listened to you for 15 minutes, but I'm British and there's normally an anti-intellectual culture amongst similar youths here (you'd probably still be able to defuse the situation, but they'd walk away when they realised the computer wasn't worth nicking).
Maybe Italy is culturally different and even "street hooligans" have tech skills/interests?
