US sees 'incremental progress' in Ethiopia's reconciliation efforts
==========
The United States is encouraged by "incremental progress" on peace and reconciliation efforts in Ethiopia, 20 months after a cease-fire was implemented in the northern Tigray region. Mike Hammer, U.S. special envoy for the Horn of Africa, stated that internally displaced people have started to return to their homes, and human rights abuses in Tigray have "dramatically decreased." However, conflicts in the Amhara and Oromia regions continue, and the U.S. is prepared to support efforts to bring peace through dialogue. The U.S. special envoy visited Ethiopia to attend the African Union's second meeting to review the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement. The U.S. is committed to supporting Ethiopia's transitional justice process to ensure accountability for war crimes. The U.S. special envoy also discussed regional issues in Djibouti and expressed concern over the situation in Sudan, calling for a resumption of peace talks.
