And by mention it I don't mean that pastors make a public position and shame the congregation to vote either way. I mean that they shouldn't avoid it as if their church is some kind of island divorced from the wider country and context. You may even have some people come to service that Sunday who you haven't seen in a while (or ever) who are looking for answers.
Be a good shepherd and speak to what the sheep need rather than what the lectionary says. You don't have to write your sermon about it, but you should at least mention it and include it in the prayers.
