Here's my latest essay, this one on a specific type of urban slavery practiced in the United States in which enslaved people were allowed to live apart from their enslavers, find their own employment, pay their owners an agreed-on sum, and keep the rest for themselves. My argument is that modern-day tenants bear in essence the same relationship to their landlords.
