Gotcha.
It is my belief as well that similar effects should pass down with voluntary fasting, if done "correctly." The damage done, however, with actual starvation is quite dramatic in which systems shut down and when in order to keep the body alive.
There was a good description in the book "Tombstone: The Great Chinese Famine;" Solzhenitsyn style.
