and of the British, and of, frankly, every major capitalist economy with the dubious exception of Germany. Capitalist employers don't like employing the sort of labour that is easily unionised. They don't see distributing wealth through the economy as a good thing.

So they won't invest in manufacturing.

China is at best a very imperfect socialist state, but it does believe that spreading at least some wealth around yields better social stability.

So it does invest in manufacturing.
