There's a lot to unpack there haha. Sounds like the whole modern engagement ring idea needs to be rethought. In the old days a man who broke off an engagement could be sued for breach of promise for ruining the future prospects of the woman, so the ring was sort of collateral. If there's no societal view that the woman suffered a loss why are guys forking out for expensive rings?
