the solution is a smart grid with as many properties having energy storage as possible (probably at present that just means batteries) as possible to buffer load. Charge off peak, provide extra capacity on peak. It just needs some tax incentives / grants to allow people to make the investment.

It would also reduce payback period on solar & it's a great way to reuse batteries from EVs that have dropped in efficiency because home batteries aren't as space constrained as in cars.
