the thing that Ed always hits on, which I think should concern everyone, is that the big tech companies are going all-in on AI for the same reason they chased VR and blockchain, which is that they are out of ideas. to justify their valuations, they need to keep growing, and to keep growing, they need a flashy, expensive, game-changing new thing, like the smartphone or cloud computing. so if AI goes bust, it's not just AI, it's the whole Silicone Valley business model.
