The two robot rules, also known as Asimov's Laws of Robotics, are a set of three rules proposed by science fiction author Isaac Asimov to govern the behavior of fictional robots in his stories. The two robot rules are as follows:

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

The third law, also proposed by Asimov, is "A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws." These laws were introduced in Asimov's 1942 story "Runaround" and have since become a popular framework for discussion of the ethics and governance of artificial intelligence.
