I don’t think most people realize, or could wrap their heads around, how profoundly *managed* people are under capitalist modernity.
By cops who monitor for any infraction or create new ones on the spot, by bosses who time how long their employees take to defecate, by credit agencies and credit card companies and banks that track every purchase, by phone companies that know every movement.
We are observed, surveilled, monitored, directed, corrected, and evaluated every moment of our lives by an array of authorities. Outside of some examples of chattel slavery and prison labor, there really is no historical comparison for living so thoroughly under the jurisdiction of others.
